January 2008: Regards,
I have attended numerous IEP meetings which absolutely needed to be held "face-to-face." Yet, after recommendations were made, families often expressed the wish to be able to "check in" on their child's progress with the team members. Did this require more "face-to-face" meetings? The Summer 2006 issue of TAP (The Autism Perspective) has published an article I wrote addressing this topic, entitled: The magazine has graciously given me permission to make this available to interested readers. The article provides an overview of how you can use teleconferences to easily follow-up on your child's progress, without having to take time off of work or travel to the school. It also covers situations where an assessor may not be to attend a meeting, but can participate via teleconference.
