The tutorials below were created with a 14 year old adolescent
with speech and developmental challenges who was frightened by a dog, fell, and
became injured. Since then, he has avoided going out or by places where he
thought dogs might be present. He participated in making these movies and
viewed them as part of an exposure (anxiety reduction) exercise.

This was the first movie, actually a PowerPoint designed
to help this adolescent distinguish between friendly versus angry dogs.

He also made a
movie using Hollywood and Camtasia software by creating three scenes
that showed one of the characters getting her fear of dogs.

Finally, he used a
simplified version of Progress Communicator (with parent assistance) to
log in and report on his reactions to view the PowerPoint (above) or
seeing dogs in the community. This "real-time" data recording was
helpful in understanding how he was acclimating. Of particular
importance, being able to show him his results as graphs (which are
instantly generated by the program) during face-to-face sessions
reminded this adolescent that his adverse reactions were diminishing. |
