ANGER & IMPULSE CONTROL
PROBLEMS |
I provide individual treatment for children and
adults with anger management
difficulties, associated with oppositional behavior, executive
functioning deficits, developmental
disabilities, and conduct problems. Many of
the treatment strategies are quite similar to those used for
treatment of anxiety disorders, however with some important
differences, since such behaviors often place others, including the
person losing control, at risk.
Intervention: Treatment is individually tailored to meet the needs of individuals.
Treatment may include some or most of the following strategies:
- Education about why people develop
anger or impulse control difficulties and the role stress and
misperception plays in fueling such problems
- Behavior modification techniques,
cognitive behavior therapy, anger and stress reduction, relaxation
training
- Social skills development
- Problem solving strategies are
included as indicated
- Support strategies are provided for
parents, spouses, or other significant adults as indicated
- Progress is generally tracked using
standard or customized data systems designed to provide individuals
(both children and adults) with useful information regarding
effective anger management and stress reduction strategies plus an
overall rating of their progress.
