Why We Love Gelsons!
Gelsons Market PictureIt was in the Fall of 2004 that I began bringing kids into Gelsons, next door to my office.  What a great setting for kids to practice all kinds of skills!  Sampling foods at the deli by asking politely, making quick decisions about what to eat, staying focused on the task at hand (e.g., shopping for our famous BBQs), tolerating unfamiliar smells, the lights, being aware of other customers and respectfully moving aside.... The list is nearly endless.

Gelsons Store Director - Adam RiegelThe fact is, most markets wouldn't put up with this.  But Gelsons not only "puts up with it," they welcome our LUNCH Group kids and teens.  Lino in the deli is always patient with them and Susan and Janice help them with their checkout items.  The produce staff are always happy to wash a piece of fruit for one of the kids.

On the days I go in without my group, at least half a dozen employees will ask, "where are the kids?"

They allow us to use the market parking lot as a safe "drop off" Gelsons deli1and "pick up."  Those of you who have participated in the groups previously know that this is a enormous improvement from our earlier drop off procedures.

So, to Adam and his crew, on behalf of the LUNCH Groups program, many, many thanks for your hospitality and generosity.  The LUNCH Group program would not be as successful without your assistance and patience.

Best Wishes,

Bruce
